September 28, 2003. The Barberton series came to a close today and we decided to give it a good run even though we could not get the championship. Tyler qualified on the outside pole and ran a terrific race. He battled back and forth with Cullen, Dale and Kory for the entire race. At the finish line it was four wide with Tyler pulling off the victory. It was one of the closest races I have seen out of any of the kart classes. What a great way to end the season. September 20 and 21, 2003. This weekend concluded the Barberton Toledo Burris Series. Tyler ran a phenominal race on Saturday. He qualified on the pole and held off the rest of the pack for a feature win. His driving was terrific as he held off the series leaders for the entire race and he made no mistakes. We spent the night at the track and hit the track hard on Sunday. Tyler wasn't in contention for the series championship so we decided to let the leaders battle it out and we took a third overall finish. Toledo was a great little track and we had a great time. September 14, 2003 September 7, 2003 August 31, 2003, Today was the American Labor Day Shoot Out which was scheduled to be a night race. Tyler started the day with his third string motor on the kart. We made several adjustments and realized the motor couldn't get our times where we knew they should be....we then pulled out our old first string motor which wasn't running too good last time out and we switched out the carburetor. The kart setup was perfect and the motor ran like a wild dog. Not sure how we hit the combination but Tyler turned a 19.29 second lap...his previous best was a 19.52 second lap. We went back to our pit and waited for the feature, unfortunately the rains moved in and we did not get to run the feature race. We definately feel we had the better setup and motor combination today. That's racing though. CONGRATULATIONS Kori Dorko on a great first heat race...she was flying. Yes the girls were rockin today. August 23 and 24, 2003, Tyler made the trip to Chapel Hill, New York for the WKA New York Divisional. This was his first Divisional and it proved to be a challenge. Tyler picked up a full second off his lap times over the weekend and qualified 10th with a 12.68 second lap on Saturday and finished 4th after a crash took out four of the lead karts. On Sunday he qualified 5th and finished 5th with a fast lap time of 11.75 seconds. The weekend was a huge success with alot of good seat time. A big thanks to Brad & Jeff Hoisington and Jake & Rich Kos for their support this weekend. A special thanks to Julie Hoisington for the hamburgers. Tyler celebrated his 10th Birthday on Sunday and got to do whatever he wanted...he chose kart racing. We look forward to the American Classic Night Race at Barberton on the 31st. August 17, 2003, The weather was good for racing today. Tyler took a first place finish in both heat races and started on the pole for the feature. There was some good racing between Tyler and Evan Finley. Tyler and Evan approached a lapped car, the rolling chicane, when Tyler went high in turn four and got a little side was. Evan had to slow down as he was pinned behind the lapped kart and Tyler and Evan drag raced the final lap with Tyler pulling off the win. August 10, 2003, Today was a rough day. We had a complete new setup and couldn't get it dialed in with just two practice sessions. Tyler took a second in the first heat and a third in the second heat. He started in second place for the feature but we made an over adjustment that made the kart push coming out of turns two and four and took our speed away. Tyler finished the feature in fourth. July 27, 2003, Tyler was driving today with a bent rear axle. It appears we have had a bend in the rear axle for about the past three races. This has made the kart fall off after a few laps and Tyler has had his hands full. He took three fourth place finishes this week and we are making some significant changes before this Sunday's race. We expect to pick up a couple of tenths just by fixing the rear axle. Look for Tyler to get another top three finish next weekend. July 19, 2003, Tyler traveled to Toledo for the third race in the Burris Series, with his crew Dale Whitt and Dennis Boggs. Dad had to stay home and attend his 20th year class reunion. Tyler battled once again with the leaders and took a third in both heat races as well as the feature. July 6, 2003, Today Tyler came home from his vacation in North Carolina at 2:30pm and only ran the feature race. He started in last place and moved quickly up to the lead four karts. He battled back and fourth and finished in third place. He was in fourth place on the last two laps, coming out of turn number two when the 3 kart got sideways and the 16 kart clipped him and spun the 3 kart out. Tyler safely negotiated the incident and moved into third place. Our fastest lap today was 19.65 seconds. June 22, 2003, Tensions were running high today at Barberton. The temperature was around 82 degrees. Tyler definitely had the faster kart today but lap traffic played a major role in his finishing position. The first heat race Tyler was running out front with the Number 3 kart when the 3 Kart ran low in turn three of the last lap and chopped Tyler and the two bounced off each other pushing Tyler high in turn four and taking his momentum away which land him a fourth place finish. The second heat Tyler started in eighth place and worked his way up to first and finished the heat in second. Tyler started the feature in third place and ran up front the entire race. He went back and fourth between first and second with the 3 kart and they came up on a slower kart...Tyler refers to as the rolling chicane. The lapped kart made a sharp move into Tyler's path and he had to lock up the brakes which totally took away his momentum. He went from first to fourth and finished the last two laps in fourth place. For the most part we are running at the front of the pack but just need a break to keep scoring first and second place finishes. Our fastest lap today was 19.52 seconds. June 15, 2003, Father's Day was great. Tyler took a second place finish in the first heat because he was caught in traffic and he was definitely faster than the rest of the karts. In the second heat he was racing in a pack with three other karts for the lead when he and the #3 Kart got together in turn two on the last lap. We rebuilt the right front end and got the setup as close as we could in the short time allowable. After all that we started fourth for the feature and Tyler raced to first place and battled #16 kart right down to the start finish and the race was decided by about four inches....we were extremely happy with the second place finish with some fantastic racing in the feature race. June 8, 2003, Tyler picked up his first Feature win today. He started both heat races in the second row and worked his way to two first place wins which gave him the poll for the feature. He spun out before the start finish line at the start of the feature and hit the wall and banged his knee on the steering wheel. He shook off the pain long enough to get back in position for the restart and battled Cory for his first feature win of the season. We celebrated by taking the family to Dairy Queen for ice cream. Tyler wants to thank his pit crew for all their hard work today...Thanks to Dennis Boggs, Dale Whitt and Jamie Davis. Also a thank you to engine builders and setup consultants from Clampett Power, Brian Short and Earl Short. And of course a special thanks to his sponsors: American Transportation Companies, Inc., Atlas Van Lines, ATC Logistics, Inc., Tyler Transportation, Inc., Raese, Strickland, Berry, Grubb & Nuske, CPA's, Gary 3D, and VIP Executive Referrals, Inc. June 1, 2003, Decided to make the trip to Circleville, Ohio to run their 1/8th mile oval for experience. We were able to get all the 90% of the Junior Sportsman Champ Drivers to attend. The track was alot different than we expected...it was very bumpy and every one of the drivers had at least one spin or off track adventure. Tyler was performing very well and in the top three but spun late in the first heat race and injured a rib. He toughed it out for the second heat race and was running third, with one lap to go, when the pain from banging against his seat become too great and he had to pull himself off the track. We made a decision not to attempt the feature race and to focus on next weekends race at Barberton. May 31, 2003, The race today was cancelled due to heavy rains and humidity. This was to be race #2 of the Burris Series and has been rescheduled for September. May 25, 2003, Great day of racing at the Bob Nervo Memorial Race at Barberton. Tyler took a second in the first heat race and 5th in the second heat after being spun out on the first lap. The feature was exciting as Tyler led on the last lap but the 2nd place kart collected his rear end and both drivers were spun out. We were very competitive and are running with the leaders. May 18, 2003, The Ohio Speedway Pavement Divisionals held at Barberton Speedway. We are finally getting the Kart setup to be more competitive. Today Tyler qualified third and finished third. Tyler ran strong with the lead kart, driven by Dale Dodge, Jr., for the better part of 6 laps before he was passed by Cullen Mumaw and moved back to third place. It was a good step in the right direction as we need to gain another 2/10ths to catch the leader. May 11, 2003, Today we experimented with a new engine builder, Clampett Power, and a complete new setup. The day was delayed due to ran and we ran one heat race and the feature. As we adjusted our Kart setup we were pressed for time and had issues with our front right tow. Despite these obstacles Tyler drove exceptionally and took a third in the feature. May 4, 2003, Tyler finished third today with a new motor and only a few laps of practice. Overall a good showing as we workout some of the kart setup problems. |
